Copperas Cove (/ ˈ k ɒ p ər ə s / KOP-ər-əs) is a city located in central Texas at the southern corner of Coryell County with smaller portions in Lampasas and Bell counties. Founded in 1879 as a small ranching and farming community, today the city is the largest in Coryell County, with 36,670 at 2020 .

The Copperas Cove Stagestop and Post Office, in Coryell County, Texas about 1.6 miles (2.6 km) southwest of Copperas Cove, Texas, was built in 1878. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. It has also served as the Martin I. Walker Historical Museum.

The 2002 season was the first time Leander won a playoff game after beating Copperas Cove 45-27 in the bi-district game. They advanced to area playoffs, but lost to Spring High School 26-28. [9] In 2003 Leander went 9–1, and were able to advance to playoffs.
The main cantonment is bounded by Killeen on the east and Copperas Cove on the west. The Fort Cavazos main cantonment area, otherwise referred to as Main post, holds its own airfield, Yoakum–DeFrenn Army Heliport. North Fort Hood is bounded by Gatesville to the northwest.
The entire current route of SH 9 is a two-lane expressway sandwiched between the city of Copperas Cove and Fort Cavazos. It is three miles (4.8 km) and is entirely in Coryell County. SH 9 begins at an intersection with FM 116 (which is briefly a four-lane highway with a wide median) north of downtown Copperas Cove.
In 2006, Waco High was classified a Class 4A school and placed in District 16-4A by the UIL. The district contained fellow former 5A rival Copperas Cove, plus Brownwood, Killeen, and Waco-area schools University and Midway. The Lions won the district title with a perfect record that year.
