[7] Most fans of the series found it very informative and entertaining, with high production value. The DVD got rave reviews, although many viewers wished that the constant recaps of each episode had been edited out.

The series starred Fess Parker as real-life frontiersman Davy Crockett and Buddy Ebsen as his friend, George Russell. [1] The first three and last two episodes were respectively edited into the theatrical films Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier (released in 1955) and Davy Crockett and the River Pirates (1956).
