Straits State Park was established in 1924 as a simple day park with the entrance located at the corner of Paro and Hombach street. In the mid-1940s the park was redesigned to allow for approximately 32 tent campsites along the shores of the Straits of Mackinac.
Fayette Historic State Park is a historic preservation and public recreation area encompassing the historic town of Fayette in the U.S. state of Michigan.It is located on the Big Bay de Noc of Lake Michigan, between Snail Shell Harbor and Sand Bay, on the southern side of the Upper Peninsula, about 17 miles south of US 2.
The bride was one of the first trunk line bridges constructed using the Michigan State Highway Department's steel stringer design. Of the 22 total trunk line bridges the department listed in its 1913–1914 biennial report, almost half were stringer bridges, and of these Pike River Bridge is the only one to remain undemolished and unaltered.
The Potawatomi lived in this region of Southwest Michigan until being forcibly removed in the 1840s. [5] Corey Lake is said to be named after Joshua Corry, the first person to settle by the lake circa 1836. He died in 1888. [6] It is unknown how the spelling came to be changed. [7] Records from 1858 refer to it as Corey's Lake. [8]
