In the late 1950s and early 1960s Soviet cinema produced Ballad of a Soldier, which won the 1961 BAFTA Award for Best Film, and The Cranes Are Flying. The Height is considered [by whom?] to be one of the best films of the 1950s (it also became the foundation of the bard movement). In the 1980s there was a diversification of subject matter.
