The Orientation to Life Questionnaire, consisting of 29 items (known as SOC-29), was developed by Antonovsky [2] using a facet theory to measure the sense of coherence. The scale includes items to measure the three components of SOC: comprehensibility (11 items), manageability (10 items), and meaningfulness (8 items).
Antonovsky identified these characteristics, which he claimed helped a person better cope (and remain healthy) by providing that person a "sense of coherence" about life and its challenges; Helen Antonovsky (his wife) developed a scale ("Orientation to life questionnaire") in 1987 to measure it.
Self-verification is a social psychological theory that asserts people want to be known and understood by others according to their firmly held beliefs and feelings about themselves, [1] that is self-views (including self-concepts and self-esteem).
The basis of coherence therapy is the principle of symptom coherence. This is the view that any response of the brain–mind–body system is an expression of coherent personal constructs (or schemas), which are nonverbal, emotional, perceptual and somatic knowings, not verbal-cognitive propositions. The Portrait Values Questionnaire (PVQ) has been developed as an alternative to the SVS. The PVQ has been created primarily for children from 11–14, however, it has also shown to produce coherent results when given to adults. In comparison to the SVS the PVQ relies on indirect reporting.
Coherence is a way of explicating truth values while circumventing beliefs that might be false in any way. More traditional critics from the correspondence theory of truth have said that it cannot have contents and proofs at the same time, unless the contents are infinite, or unless the contents somehow exist in the form of proof.
