Austin 's original colony, and the land is some of the oldest Anglo -settled in the state. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 600 in 2000.

The Stagecoach Inn of Chappell Hill (also known as the Stage Coach Inn) is a historic stagecoach inn at Main and Chestnut Streets in Chappell Hill, Texas, United States. It was built in 1850 by Mary Elizabeth Haller (née Hargrove), the founder of Chappell Hill.

The district was added to the United States, National Register of Historic Places on May 15, 1985, under National Register Information System ID: 85001175. February 20, 1985. Chappell Hill Public School is a historic school on Poplar Street in Chappell Hill, Texas. The old bell from Chappell Hill Female College, which was at this location until 1912, is preserved on the property. The public school was built in 1927, replacing the college building, which was used as a school until 1926. [2]
In 1849, Chappell Hill's founders, Jacob Haller and Mary Hargrove Haller, dedicated an acre, adjacent to the Chappell Hill Academy, for a church site. Five years earlier the national Methodist Episcopal Church had split into a Northern and Southern conference after being united since the founding of Methodism in America in 1789.
Part of Main Street Historic District; exceptional-quality 14-room, 1850 inn is also the oldest building in Chappell Hill. Known as Hargrove House when it served as a boarding house for college students, during the antebellum period it was an important stagecoach and telegraph office on the routes between Houston & Austin and Houston & Waco .
