The Ogle County Courthouse is a National Register of Historic Places listing in the Ogle County, Illinois, county seat of Oregon. The building stands on a public square in the city's downtown commercial district. The current structure was completed in 1891 and was preceded by two other buildings, one of which was destroyed by a group of outlaws.
Iron Mike is an 1896 cast-iron fountain in the 400 Block of Washington Street in the city of Oregon, Illinois. It is located at the site of the Ogle County Courthouse, at the intersection of Illinois Route 2 and Route 64. Iron Mike is four feet tall and three feet wide, at its widest point.
The land Oregon, Illinois was founded on was previously held by the Potawatomi and Winnebago Indian tribes. In fact, later, settlers discovered that the area contained a large number of Indian mounds, most 10–12 feet (3.0–3.7 m) in diameter. [5] Ogle County was a New England settlement.
Of the numerous buildings two of them are listed individually on the National Register of Historic Places. They are the Arts and Crafts Oregon Public Library and the Romanesque Revival Ogle County Courthouse. The buildings are a mix of commercial, government and private residence usage, mostly some apartments on the upper floors of some buildings.
Ogle County is a county in the northern part of the U.S. state of Illinois. According to the 2020 United States Census , it had a population of 51,788. [ 1 ] Its county seat is Oregon , [ 2 ] and its largest city is Rochelle .
