Spray foam is a type of insulation that is sprayed in place through a gun. Polyurethane and isocyanate foams are applied as a two-component mixture that comes together at the tip of a gun, and forms an expanding foam. Cementitious foam is applied in a similar manner but does not expand.
Sticky foam is a type of less-lethal weapon, consisting of various extremely tacky and/or tenacious materials carried in compressed form with a propellant and used to block, entangle, and impair individuals. A National Institute of Justice-funded project at Sandia National Laboratory developed a "gun" which could fire multiple shots of sticky foam.
EPE foams are low density, semi-rigid, closed cell foam that are generally somewhere in stiffness/compliance between Expanded polystyrene and Polyurethane. Production of EPE foams is similar to that of expanded polystyrene, but starting with PE beads. [1] Typical densities are 29 to 120 kg/m 3 (49 to 202 lb/cu yd) with the lower figure being ...
In recent years, EVA foam has seen popular use in cosplay communities, largely in part due to its ease to work with, durability, and comfort in comparison to traditional plastic-based costumes. [ 7 ] Flower-making foam is a thin sheet made of EVA, which is flexible, and is used by artists and craft makers to make artificial flowers.
Spray foam insulation extruding from a duct. Spray foam (expanding foam in the UK) is a chemical product created by a chemical reaction of two component parts, commonly referred to as side A and side B. [1] Side A contains very reactive chemicals known as isocyanate.
At high temperature, these flammable gasses will ignite when turbulently mixed with atmospheric oxygen beyond the muzzle of the gun. During night engagements, the flash produced by ignition can reveal the location of the gun to enemy forces [7]: 322–323 and cause temporary night-blindness among the gun crew by photo-bleaching visual purple. [27]
The product was cast as a sheet on an endless belt which passed through a dryer that drove off the solvent. [ 5 ] [ 6 ] The finished product was around 30% chlorine. [ 4 ] It could be made thinner by stretching whilst being heated and thicknesses of 0.00075–0.025 inches (0.019–0.635 mm) were sold.
The density of the foam varies with the type being used; Type 2.5 is a white to light amber foam weighing 2.5 pounds per cubic foot, while Type 1.8 is a pale blue to green foam weighing 1.8 pounds per cubic foot. [3] Chopped fiberglass strands embedded in the foam add to the structural integrity through physical support and shrapnel mitigation.
