Woodside's company purchased 65,000 acres (260,000,000 m 2) from the Myrtle Beach Farms Company, which included the land for the hotel along the oceanfront. Woodside completed the golf course and country club in 1928, and turned attention to building a hotel catering to upper-class clientele.
The resort was originally owned by the textile company Springs Industries, and available for Springs employees only. The resort opened to the public in 1953, but retained the Springmaid name until 2016. [1] A large cafeteria was also built on property and the food was prepared at the commissary in Lancaster SC and was trucked to the beach daily.

The $250 million attraction is set on 350 acres (1.4 km 2) in the heart of Myrtle Beach and features three theaters, over 20 restaurants and over 100 specialty shops as well as attractions, Clubs for the night, and hotels, all surrounding the 23-acre (93,000 m 2) Lake Broadway. Broadway at the Beach receives upwards of 14 million visitors annually.
