Taramon Bibi Bir Protik (c. 1956 – 1 December 2018) [1] was one of the two female freedom fighters in Bangladesh obtaining the Bir Protik award. [2] [3] She engaged in direct combat during the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971 as a member of the Mukti Bahini (Liberation Army) which was a guerrilla force that fought against the Pakistan military.
She lost hope of finding her husband and joined Muktibahini (the guerrilla resistance movement formed by the Bangladesh military, paramilitary and civilians during the War of Liberation). Freedom fighter Rahmat Ali introduced her to sector five commander, Mir Shawkat Ali. Shawkat called Kakon Bibi his sister of religion.
