The Housemaid (Korean: 하녀; Hanja: 下女; RR: Hanyeo) is a 1960 South Korean film, produced, written and directed by Kim Ki-young. It stars Lee Eun-shim , Ju Jeung-nyeo and Kim Jin-kyu . It has been described in Koreanfilm.org as a "consensus pick as one of the top three Korean films of all time".
The story focuses on Eun-yi, played by Jeon Do-yeon, who becomes involved in a destructive love triangle while working as a housemaid for an upper-class family. Other cast members include Lee Jung-jae, Youn Yuh-jung and Seo Woo. The film is a remake of Kim Ki-young's 1960 film of the same name.
Kim Ki-young was born in the Gyo-dong neighborhood of Seoul—now part of Gyeongun-dong in Jongno-gu [3] —on October 10, 1922. [1] [4] His family had lived in Seoul for several generations, and his grandfather was a guard at Gwanghwamun. [5]
