Myra is a 1995 large painting created by Marcus Harvey which is a reproduction of the mugshot of Myra Hindley shortly after she was arrested for her participation in the Moors murders. It was displayed at the Sensation exhibition of Young British Artists at the Royal Academy of Art in London from 8 September to 28 December 1997.
The Moors murders were a series of child killings committed by Ian Brady and Myra Hindley in and around Manchester, England, between July 1963 and October 1965.The victims were five children—Pauline Reade, John Kilbride, Keith Bennett, Lesley Ann Downey and Edward Evans—aged between 10 and 17, at least four of whom were sexually assaulted.
There is no evidence to implicate Hindley, so she walks free from the police station, despite David Smith's claims that she had helped lure Edward Evans back to the house to be murdered at Brady's hands. The police also allow Smith to walk free, despite Brady and Hindley both claiming that Smith was involved in the murder.
