There were horse races and races for human participants. Each evening there was music and dancing in the Ring 'o Bells, the village public house. A mini ring is a portable ring of bells which demonstrates the English full-circle style of ringing. The public can easily see how it works.

The 'steeple' in fact dates from the early 15th century, but the original blew down in 1731 and was rebuilt between 1790 and 1832. The large west tower was added to the church around 1548 to house the bells of nearby Burscough Priory following the Dissolution of the Monasteries. One of these bells can still be seen in the church.
In August 2010, the village had a surprise visit and performance by singer Kylie Minogue at the Ring O’Bells pub. [6] In 2018, farmland near Compton Martin was used as a filming location for the 2018 comedy film The Festival starring Joe Thomas, Noel Fielding and Jemaine Clement. [7]
Ormskirk is one of only three churches in England to have both a tower and a spire. [ nb 1 ] Scars on the interior east walls of the steeple and tower show the original width of the nave and aisles; the current south arcade is further north than the original one, which was approximately in line with the north wall of the steeple.
The village had three public houses: The Butchers Arms (demolished 2009–10), The Ferryboat, and the Ring o' Bells which stood on the site of the present senior citizens' bungalows. The Ferryboat Inn continues to operate as a free house in Church Laneham under new ownership following a period of closure in 2019.
