The largest correctional facility in the state is the New Hampshire State Prison for Men in Concord, which is managed by the New Hampshire Department of Corrections. In order to use an inmate telephone service, inmates must register and provide a list of names and numbers for the people they intend to communicate with. [5] Call limitations vary depending on the prison's house rule, but calls are typically limited to 15 minutes each, and inmates must wait thirty minutes before being allowed to make another call. [6]
The prison, which was opened in 1878 to replace a previous prison constructed in 1812, is the oldest in New Hampshire Department of Corrections. It was expanded and renovated in the 1980s, and it houses maximum security male prisoners and has a 60-bed secure psychiatric unit and residential treatment unit.

It is operated by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a division of the United States Department of Justice. The facility also has an adjacent satellite prison camp housing minimum-security male inmates.
