The Apollo Theatre opened on January 11, 1922. In 1975, the theater suffered a fire, forcing it to close. It was listed as a contributing property to the North State Street Historic District of Belvidere's National Register of Historic Places application in 2012, noting the unusual partially asymmetrical facade at ground level.
