In 1915, Santa Ana Junior College opened its doors to 25 students as a department of Santa Ana High School. It was the second community college founded in Orange County , behind Fullerton College , and the fourth oldest in all of California.

The Eastern Conference was a junior college athletic conference with member schools located in Southern California that operated from 1932 to 1969. The conference's initial members included Fullerton Junior College—now known as Fullerton College—and Santa Ana College.
Santa Ana was rated as the No. 1 junior college football team in the country in the final rankings issued in December 1940 by the All-American Gridiron Index. Santa Ana received 509 points, edging Louisiana State University's Northeast Center Junior College and Kilgore College which received 499 and 492 points, respectively. [4]
The pre-collegiate division of Santa Clara College later became Santa Clara Preparatory and then Bellarmine College Preparatory in San Jose. This is the first oldest high school in California. Duane Allen was born in Alhambra, California on October 21, 1937. He attended Alhambra High School, where he earned All-Southern California prep football honors. [2] Allen did not play football at a four-year college but was twice a Junior College All-American while attending Mt. San Antonio College in 1956 and Santa Ana College in 1960. [2]
