National Institute of Technology Uttarakhand (also known as NIT Uttarakhand or NITUK) is a public technical university in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.It was founded in 2009, [3] as one of the 10 new National Institutes of Technology in India, and is recognised as an Institute of National Importance under The National Institutes Of Technology (Amendment) Act, 2012. The National Institutes of Technology (NITs) are centrally funded technical institutes under the ownership of the Ministry of Education, Government of India.They are governed by the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education, and Research Act, 2007, which declared them institutions of national importance and laid down their powers, duties, and framework for governance.
As of 14 November 2023, the UGC lists 124 institutes which were granted the deemed to be university status. [2] In 2017, a distinct category of deemed universities was established called Institutes of Eminence Deemed to be Universities , which are regulated differently from other deemed universities to develop into world-class institutions.
The university has been established in an area of 8.372 hectares and it is the only affiliating University of the state for technical institutions. There are 6 campus Institutes and 75 affiliated colleges [ 3 ] with 23,000 students in courses mentioned below: [ 4 ]

The university has three campuses: Birla Campus, Srinagar Garhwal with its extension at Chauras Campus, B. Gopal Reddy Campus, Pauri and Swami Ram Teerth (SRT) Campus, Badshahithaul, Tehri. [4] In addition, there are 121 colleges and institutes affiliated to it, spreading over seven districts of Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.
