Nancy Brown Peace Carillon, postcard circa 1940–45 The carillon in 2008. The Nancy Brown Peace Carillon is a bell tower containing an electronic carillon on Detroit's Belle Isle. It is dedicated to peace and named after Nancy Brown, the pseudonym of The Detroit News columnist Mrs. J. E. Leslie (born Annie Louise Brown).
The Nancy Brown Peace Carillon on Belle Isle. Brown used her column to crowdfund a series of community projects. A 1929 campaign to reforest 560 acres (230 ha) of clearcut forest in Northern Michigan was funded largely by the "Experience" readership after Brown published a letter suggesting that readers make donations.
