The 2023–24 Biathlon World Cup (official: BMW IBU World Cup Biathlon) was a multi-race series over a season of biathlon, organised by the International Biathlon Union (IBU). It was the 47th edition for men and 42nd edition for women of the highest international race series in biathlon. [1] [2] [3]
Since the Biathlon European Championships are held as “open” competitions, the field of participants is not limited to athletes from Europe. Individual athletes and teams from North and South America, Asia, and Australia also take part in the competitions. The championships are the highlight of the 2024/25 IBU Cup season.
The Biathlon World Cup is a top-level biathlon season-long competition series. It has been held since the winter seasons of 1977–78 for men and 1982–83 for women. The women's seasons until 1986–87 season were called the European Cup, although participation was not restricted to Europeans.

Sverre Dahlen Aspenes entered the biathlon sport in 2007, but he didn't make his international debut until relatively late. Initially, he competed in cross-country skiing at the national junior championships in 2015 and 2016. Aspenes made his first biathlon appearances at the Junior European Championships in 2017 in Nové Město na Moravě.

In the men's 2020–21 Biathlon World Cup total score, for each participating athlete the points earned in all Individual, Sprint, Pursuit and Mass start competitions held during the season are added up with the four lowest scores subtracted at the end of the season to give that athlete's final score.
