Abraham Lincoln (/ ˈ l ɪ ŋ k ən / LINK-ən; February 12, 1809 – April 15, 1865) was an American politician and lawyer who was the 16th president of the United States, serving from 1861 until his assassination in 1865.

Barton, one of these rumors began circulating in 1861 "in various forms in several sections of the South" that Lincoln's biological father was Abraham Enloe, a resident of Rutherford County, North Carolina, who died in that same year.
