the key foreign objectives of a sane Spain are: regaining Gibraltar - OTL, Phillip tried retaking it by force mid/late 1720's, after getting some ridiculous advice/false claims from a schemer they sent to Austria.
First Crisis is that Louis XIV dumped Louis I's sister in favor of an older Polish princess. Sis was living in France and sent back. Major diplomatic problem. This will likely drive Spain back into British direction. First order of business is to stabilize British relations. Mar 23, 2016. #5.
The POD is that Philippe Charles, Duke of Valois survives. He is the eldest son of the Duke of Orleans, Louis XIV's brother. His mother is Henrietta of England, daughter of Charles I. This means that if the Old Pretender dies before the death of Queen Anne in 1714, this alternate Phillippe II... Deleted member 180541.
what if Louis 1st of Spain, eldest son of Philip 5th of Spain via his first marriage to Maria Luisa of Savoy lived? Louis had ascended to the throne in 1724 when his father had abdicated in his favour, but died a few months later due to smallpox. If he hadn't caught smallpox, he would've...
Louis became King of Spain after the abdication of Philip V on January 1724 but then died of smallpox a few months later, the throne then reverting to his father. Some say Elisabeth of Farnese poisoned him. What if he had survived? Apparently he didn't care much about Spain's former Italian...

Britain is not going to protect Portugal (hindsight being 20/20 Britain isn't going to protect Portugal no matter what) from a friendly country. Spain sucks up to Britain, she can do whatever she wants to Portugal, so long as she doesn't interrupt British interests.

[1] With surviving Arpads on the throne Premyslids are not distracted by Hungarian succession crisis and concentrate their energy north of Carpathians.
Pretty unlikely to happen, unless France started the question sending back Mariana Victoria (and I do not believe who Bourbon would be so stupid to doing that with Louis as King of Spain). Louise Elisabeth had brought a very fat dowry and was still only 14 years old at her husband’s death...
Upon the death of Charles II, you could have the powers agree to adhere to terms of the 2nd Partition Treaty, basically splitting the empire with Austrian Charles getting Spain and Colonies and France's Dauphin Louis getting the Italian portion. Good luck with that, though. Louis XIV and...
