Currently Cyclone "Heidi" is crossing the coast of North West Australia. On the TV news they are reporting winds of 70 knots. Passage Weather is reporting no more than 20 - 25 knots. Obviously from the TV footage, the TV report is the more accurate.

This! Passageweather is excellent. The data is available in many places, but PW is the best I've seen for usability and sensitivity to bandwidth challenges of cruising sailors.

just watch weather-- folks have done itin smaller boats--i know some--- just watch weather--not just listen--look online for passage weather-- good for 3 days in gom. watch sky for front change clouds-- it WILL change--and find out what noaa thinks is coming--is severe or extreme-- go to a good hidey hole.
The Cornell pilot charts are good for doing long term passage planning. The Cornell passage book is good for a quick look at times of year and routes. The reality is that each area of the globe has very specific issues that affect a cruisers passage plan. For the S Pacific try the Metbob booklet.
Nothing really needs to be made before setting off. Lots of snacks are good - hard boil eggs before the passage, and as Zeehag mentioned make savoury muffins with fillings such as corn & tuna. Bake a cake beforehand to have with frequent mugs of coffee, tea or hot chocolate, and have plenty of chocolate stashed away.
The models shown on Passage Weather and SeaWeather.net keep S SW winds in the area into next week. It looks like it would be favorable for a broad reach to Bermuda departing Wed or Thursday.
