[1] Born and raised in Santa Monica, California, she made her on-screen debut with the television film Diary of a Teenage Hitchhiker (1979) and played recurring roles in the drama series Family (1980) and the comedy series Breaking Away (1980–1981).

Harris served as the mayor of Dunn, North Carolina, from 1987 to 1995 and again from 2003 to 2019. He was a member of the North Carolina Senate from 1998 to 2002. Harris was a Democrat.
