Mount Spokane [elevation 5,887 feet (1,794 m)]—previously known as Mount Baldy until 1912 [3] due to its pronounced bald spot—is a mountain in the northwest United States, located northeast of Spokane, Washington. Its summit is the highest point in Spokane County, [2] and it is one of the tallest peaks in the Inland Northwest.
The canyon is flanked by near vertical basalt walls that are in places vertical cliffs 100 apart. The area is popular with hikers [9] and rock climbers. [10] A bridge carrying the Spokane River Centennial Trail crosses over the creek at its mouth. The community of Nine Mile Falls is located across the Spokane River from the mouth of Deep Creek.
Deep Creek is located 14 miles west of Downtown Spokane along U.S. Route 2 and two miles northwest of Fairchild Air Force Base.The city of Airway Heights, which forms the westernmost suburb of the Spokane urban area, is located five miles to the east along U.S. 2.
