The Guadalajara metropolitan area (officially, in Spanish: Zona Metropolitana de Guadalajara) [2] is the most populous metropolitan area of the Mexican state of Jalisco and the third largest in the country after Greater Mexico City and Monterrey.
Many of the survivors that were affected by the explosions started a group called "La Asociación 22 de Abril en Guadalajara" (Association of April 22 of Guadalajara). The city was founded as Villa Real de Chiapa in 1528 by Diego de Mazariegos in what was called the Hueyzacatlán Valley, which means “pasture” in Nahuatl. From then on, the city went through a number of name changes: to Villa Viciosa in 1529, to Villa de San Cristóbal de los Llanos in 1531, and to Ciudad Real in 1536.
