Mayo is a census-designated place (CDP) in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. The population was 8,298 in the 2010 census . [ 2 ] The Mayo CDP of 2010 includes all of the area that used to be counted as the Selby-on-the-Bay CDP.
Maryland Route 253 (MD 253) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Maryland. Known as Mayo Road, the route runs 1.34 miles (2.16 km) from MD 214 north to MD 2 within Edgewater in Anne Arundel County. MD 253 was constructed in Edgewater in the early 1910s and early 1920s.
Gresham is a historic home near Edgewater, Maryland. It is a large 2 + 1 ⁄ 2-story frame dwelling built in the late 1700s. [2] John Gresham II lived at Gresham after 1686 on land owned by land-grant pioneer Captain Edward Selby. [3]
Maryland Route 214 (Central Avenue) intersects MD 2 and forms the southern boundary of the CDP leading east to the communities of Beverley Beach and Mayo. Maryland Route 253 (Mayo Road) curves through the center of the CDP in the Londontown neighborhood connecting Routes 2 and 214. Lee Airport is a general aviation airport in Edgewater.
Blandair, also known as Blandair Farm, Blandair Park, and Blandair Regional Park, is 300 acres of former slave plantation located in Columbia, Maryland. [1] [2] [3] The Blandair Foundation estate of Mrs. Smith was purchased by Howard County, Maryland in the late 1990s and is in the process of being developed as a regional park.
The origin of the name is unclear, but (with the additional 'e') is likely the surname of a relative or friend. The property is located in the community of Mayo, at the eastern terminus of Highway 214. Kalb reserved the bayfront property for an exclusive day resort attraction, which was also named Beverley Beach, and for his own personal residence.
