Safety concerns have kept the military's fleet of around 400 aircraft grounded for nearly three months.
The grounding occurred at 8 p.m. about 0.5 miles (800 m) south of the Honolulu International Airport's Reef Runway. No one was injured and no fuel spilled. The grounding was in full view of commercial aircraft landing and departing from the nearby airport, causing embarrassment to the Navy. [2] [3]
