Poetic devices are a form of literary device used in poetry. Poems are created out of poetic devices via a composite of: structural, grammatical, rhythmic, metrical, verbal, and visual elements. In Book III Plato defines poetry as a type of narrative which takes one of three forms: the "simple," the "imitative" , or any mix of the two. [9] In Book X, Plato argues that poetry is too many degrees removed from the ideal form to be anything other than deceptive and, therefore, dangerous.
