Rowan Oak was the home of author William Faulkner in Oxford, Mississippi. It is a primitive Greek Revival house built in the 1840s by Colonel Robert Sheegog, an Irish immigrant planter from Tennessee. Faulkner purchased the house when it was in disrepair in 1930 and did many of the renovations himself. Other renovations were done in the 1950s.

The house sits on a rectangular lot, 0.55 acres (0.22 ha), in the Battle Estate Development near the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. It was renovated in the 1950s and again around 1983 before being rehabilitated in 2016 using Nash's blueprints .

The original section of the hotel was built in 1923–1924 on the site of the chapel that gave the town of Chapel Hill its name. [3] Wings were added in 1939–1940, 1969–1970, and 1995. Each section consists of two stories constructed in red brick topped by a gambrel roof with dormers.
