Livedo reticularis is a common skin finding consisting of a mottled reticulated vascular pattern that appears as a lace-like purplish discoloration of the skin. [1] The discoloration is caused by reduction in blood flow through the arterioles that supply the cutaneous capillaries, resulting in deoxygenated blood showing as blue discoloration ().
Because each vertebra can cause pain in different areas of the body, the pain from the disease can be sensed in the back, leg, neck area, or even the arms. When the spinal canal begins to lose its gap and gets thinner, it can cause pain in the neck, which can also cause a numb feeling in the arms and hands.
Losing weight can nix this risk factor for low back pain by decreasing the demand on your spinal structures, says Dr. Landon Uetz, PT, DPT, a physical therapist at TeachMe.To.
Low back pain accounts for 17% of all physician visits of people aged 65 and older. [37] From this population, a large portion of radicular pain stems not from disk pathology, but from lumbar spinal stenosis. [37] According to Kalff et al., 21% of people over the age of 60 have lumbar spinal stenosis, as confirmed by radiological screening. [38]
[3] [8] Pain is usually present in adults, and can worsen with age. [9] As the condition progresses, it may alter a person's life, and hence can also be considered a disability. [10] It can be compared to kyphosis and lordosis, other abnormal curvatures of the spine which are in the sagittal plane (front-back) rather than the coronal (left-right).
The medical term for mottled skin is dyschromia. [3] Although this is not always the case, mottling can occur in the dying patient and commonly indicates that the end of life is near. Mottling usually occurs in the extremities (lower first) and progresses up as cardiac function declines and circulation throughout the body is poor. [ 3 ]
As a result of the trials, German public health insurers began to cover acupuncture for chronic low back pain and osteoarthritis of the knee, but not tension headache or migraine. [154] This decision was based in part on socio-political reasons. [154] Some insurers in Germany chose to stop reimbursement of acupuncture because of the trials. [155]
Epididymitis is a medical condition characterized by inflammation of the epididymis, a curved structure at the back of the testicle. [1] Onset of pain is typically over a day or two. [1] The pain may improve with raising the testicle. [1] Other symptoms may include swelling of the testicle, burning with urination, or frequent urination. [1]
