The first issue of the Greensburg Daily News was published January 1, 1894 by Worrell Newspapers of Indiana. The independent Republican paper was printed every day except Sunday. Weekly editions of the paper included the Weekly News (1899–1901), Greensburg News (1901–1917) and Greensburg Standard (1918–1925). [2]
The 104th mustered into service at Greensburg on July 10, 1863, under the command of Colonel James Gavin. The regiment included six companies of "Minute Men" and four companies from the Indiana Legion, the state's militia. The majority of the men from the 104th came from Marion County, Decatur County, Fayette County, and Dearborn County, Indiana.
