On 20 June 2011, Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney and Finance Minister Jim Flaherty unveiled the new $100 notes. [2] The previous 100-dollar note is dominantly brown in colour. It is still largely in circulation. The front features a portrait of Robert Borden, the coat of arms, and a picture of the East Block of the Parliament buildings.
All the notes except the $100 note have additional series years 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2009A (some banknotes only). The $100 2009 series began issuing to the public in early 2010 and was printed in 2009 before they were issued. The 2004 to 2009 series of the $100 note was withdrawn from the circulation in November 2011.
The series was the first Bank of Canada series not to include a $1,000 note; the Canadian Landscape design of this bill continued to be printed during this series's run, with an updated $1,000 note appearing in the Birds of Canada series in 1992. All notes measure 152.4 × 69.85 mm (6 × 2¾ inches).
