Anyway, seems to work real well. Thought I'd post it since I spent a few days scouring the net looking for ideas on how to do a yak trailer. I intended to get a 5'x9' trailer originally but they didn't have any in the store. I'm glad now.
Plus, they are lockable. There are options to mount trailer storage boxes (I have one on my trailer) which are great for miscellaneous gear. On my multi-kayak trailer I transport the upper level kayaks upside down on 2x6 and 2x4 carpet covered cross beams which protect the kayaks and provides some traction when strapping down.
The only other Idea I can think of is get a wider rack or possibly stack them on top of each other which seems like a huge pain in the ass. I would prefer not to trailer them but that may be the best thing too do for the price. Any ideas or input for transporting would be greatly appreciated. I will try to post a picture of the topper tomorrow ...
Bam! There ya go! Now take the boat crank/roller tower off to lighten the trailer. If you want any trailer kayak toting ideas hit me up, can’t weld for ya from here but my $0.02 is always free. Unless you like long drives to other states to fish then I can weld for ya.
Hi all, I'm looking into solutions for storing a PA14 (which I don't have yet). Searching online, I could find a lot of threads, articles and YouTube videos talking about modifying the trailer by building PVC rails that bend to conform to the hull of the kayak.
I'm considering getting a trailer (had one before, but just ended up throwing the yak in the bed of the pickup) because I'm looking at getting an SUV so I can just sleep in it when traveling further from home. Looking for ideas/suggestions on what *kind* of trailer I should consider. Obviously, I want it to be able to haul a kayak around.
As a temp soloution i could get some adapters to load the kayak on the trailblazer to go fishing. Shawn WP_20140414_005.jpg (520.26 kB, 1024x768 - viewed 56 times.)
I thought some folks who don't want to shell out $1600 or more for a kayak trailer might take some inspiration from my COVID project. Please DM me with any questions and I'll be happy to elaborate. Here are some bullet points which may or may not be so obvious...--Base trailer is a Harbor Freight 40"x48" trailer that I purchased on CL for $125.
