The school was established in 1979 in a private house. A basement was used as the first classroom. [4] Area Japanese parents formally opened the school in April 1980, then only having elementary level classes, and the school started with three teachers and fourteen students. [5]
All students are enrolled in college preparatory classes, and in courses relating to art history, art appreciation, performance, art creation, and art criticism. Students may choose AP classes in biology, calculus, European history, Japanese, French, Spanish, Italian, studio art, English, and music theory. The school does not offer athletics.
Trinity Lutheran Seminary is accredited and its degree programs are approved by the Association of Theological Schools in the United States and Canada and by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
With expansion each year, the school grew to include grades K-8, with the first graduating class of eight students in 1966. From 1972-75, Temple Israel was the temporary home to the school. In 1975, CTA moved to its permanent home at 181 Noe Bixby Road.
The Center and its multiple nonprofit subtenants provide services including workforce development and job training, early learning preschool and child care, after-school and summer programming for school-aged children, a variety of social services, and a cafe which serves weekday lunches and Tuesday evening dinner.
