One of several major mound sites in the Florida Panhandle, the park is located in northern Tallahassee, on the south shore of Lake Jackson. Velda Mound is a Native American archaeological site located in northern Tallahassee, Leon County, Florida, United States.The site was first occupied by peoples of the Fort Walton Culture (a regional variation of the Mississippian culture [1]) in the late prehistoric period and during the protohistoric period was part of the extensive Apalachee Province of the panhandle.

Wakulla Springs. Wakulla Springs is located 14 miles (23 km) south of Tallahassee, Florida and 5 miles (8.0 km) east of Crawfordville in Wakulla County, Florida at the crossroads of State Road 61 and State Road 267. It is protected in the Edward Ball Wakulla Springs State Park.
There are 71 properties and districts listed on the National Register in the county, including 1 National Historic Landmark. Another 3 properties were once listed, but have since been delisted. It is located roughly between the city of Tallahassee and the town of St. Marks. During the American Civil War, the Battle of Natural Bridge was fought here on March 6, 1865.
