This is a list of Indian (wholly or partially owned, wholly or partially designed and/or manufactured) satellites and orbital space crafts, both operated by the Indian government (ISRO, Indian defence forces, other government agencies) or private (educational and research) entities.
ExseedSat-1 is the first Indian commercial satellite built by Satellize (formerly known as Exseed Space). It was a communication satellite launched by SpaceX's Falcon-9 rocket on 6 December 2018. [27] ExseedSat-2 (AISAT) is the second Indian commercial satellite built for Amsat India launched on the fourth stage of the PSLV-C45 mission. [28]
The U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), formerly ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC) (Hindi: इसरो उपग्रह केंद्र) is an ISRO centre for the design, development, and construction of Indian satellites. It was established in 1972 as Indian Scientific Satellite Project (ISSP) in Peenya Industrial Estates of Bangalore. [1]
It is used by Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle, LVM3 and is intended for India's first crewed space mission. [ 20 ] [ 29 ] The first launch from the pad occurred on 5 May 2005, and was of a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle carrying the CARTOSAT-1 and HAMSAT satellites. [ 30 ]
The GSAT (Geosynchronous Satellite) [1] satellites are India's indigenously developed communications satellites, used for digital audio, data and video broadcasting. As of 5 December 2018, 20 GSAT satellites manufactured by ISRO have been launched, out of which 14 are in service.
The system was developed partly because access to foreign government-controlled global navigation satellite systems is not guaranteed in hostile situations, as happened to the Indian military in 1999 when the United States denied an Indian request for Global Positioning System (GPS) data for the Kargil region, which would have provided vital information. [22]
GSAT-7, the multi-band communication satellite named Rukmini [4] carries the payloads in UHF, C band and K u band.It is the first dedicated military communication satellite (unlike earlier dual use satellites) built by ISRO that will provide services to the Indian Armed Forces [5] with the main user being the Indian Navy. [6]
GSAT-18 is an Indian communications satellite. Built by ISRO and operated by INSAT, it carries 24 C-band, 12 extended C-band, and 12 K u-band transponders.. The satellite was launched on 5 October 2016 at approximately 20:30 UTC aboard an Ariane 5 ECA rocket from the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, French Guiana.
