The Underground Railroad is an American historical drama television miniseries created and directed by Barry Jenkins based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Colson Whitehead. The series premiered on Amazon Prime Video on May 14, 2021.
The plot centers around Ballard's Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R.), an anti-sex trafficking organization. The film was released on July 4, 2023, by Angel Studios , and was a sleeper hit , grossing $250 million against a $14.5 million budget to become one of the most successful independent films in history.
