The 2024 World Rowing Championships were held from 18 to 25 August 2024 at the Royal Canadian Henley Rowing Course in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. [1] The championship was a combined event of the Senior, Under 23, and Under 19 championships, however only non-Olympic and Paralympic senior races were included in these Worlds due to the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics.
Ned Hanlan - Nicknamed the "boy in blue" during his racing career, he won more than 300 races (including exhibitions) with fewer than a dozen defeats. He had become one of Canada's “first national sporting hero”, winning the American and English Championships as well as becoming the world champion for five consecutive years from 1880-1884 in single-scull rowing. Jennifer Walinga (aka Doey, born January 9, 1965) is a retired rower who competed between the 1980s to 1990s.As a member of the national rowing team for Canada, Walinga placed 4th at the 1983 Junior World Championships in Vichy, France, 2nd at the 1984 U23 Sr B World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark, and 5th at the 1985 World Rowing Championships in Hazewinkel, Belgium.
Olivia McMurray (born April 12, 1993) is a national team rower from Canada. McMurray became a Pan American Games champion when she won gold in women's eight at the 2023 Pan Am Games in Santiago . She also won a silver medal at the same games in the coxless pair with Abigail Dent .
Victoria Nolan (born January 3, 1975, in Liverpool, England [1]) is a pararower for Canada's National Rowing Team. In 2010, she and her crew (LTAMix4+) won gold at the 2010 World Rowing Championships in Cambridge, New Zealand. She has competed in numerous other World Championships, as well as the 2008 and 2016 Summer Paralympics.
Despite challenges from university coach, Jarvis determined to reach his potential pushed hard to succeed. Leaping beyond the boundaries of university rowing he quickly realized his potential on Canada's national rowing team. Bringing home Silver in 2002 from the under 23 world rowing championships he returned to university to make a difference.
In 2018 and 2019, Proske competed with Gabrielle Smith in the double sculls boat at the World Rowing Championships. In 2018, they finished in sixth and in 2019 fourth, and qualifying Canada the boat for the 2020 Summer Olympics. [1] In June 2021, Proske was named to Canada's 2020 Olympic team in the women's eights boat.
