Study Butte (/ ˈ s tj uː d i ˌ b juː t / STEW-dee BEWT [3]) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Brewster County, Texas, United States. The population was 200 at the 2020 census , down from 233 at the 2010 census . [ 4 ]
The third-largest producer of quicksilver in the area was the Study Butte Mine, located five miles east of Terlingua. Cinnabar was discovered here in 1902 and mined from 1905.
