Callaway County is a county located in the U.S. state of Missouri.As of the 2020 United States Census, the county's population was 44,283. [1] Its county seat is Fulton. [2] With a border formed by the Missouri River, the county was organized November 25, 1820, and named for Captain James Callaway, grandson of Daniel Boone. [3]

Fulton is the largest city in and the county seat of Callaway County, Missouri, United States. [3] Located about 22 miles (35 km) northeast of Jefferson City and the Missouri River and 20 miles (32 km) east of Columbia, the city is part of the Jefferson City, Missouri, Metropolitan Statistical Area.
As can be seen from the 1930 map of Callaway townships, at some point after 1930 the southeastern corner of Cleveland Township reverted to become part of Bourbon Township again. Its boundaries are illustrated in the maps linked below.
Mokane is located on the north side of the Missouri River valley along Missouri Route 94 between Tebbetts to the southwest and Steedman to the northeast. Fulton lies about twelve miles to the north along Missouri Route C. [13] The Katy Trail, a rails-to-trails hiking/biking path, runs through the town, which stands at mile 125.

The map on the 2nd page of the atlas published in 1876 still shows the much larger Liberty Township boundaries, which had just been changed at the end of 1875. [5] Whereas the map from 1930 shows a smaller Liberty Township, which appears to approximate today's boundaries.
