It was built in at least two sections. The oldest section is a three-bay, two-story stone section built about 1815. Built about the same time was a 11⁄2 -story clapboard section.

[3] The county was created on February 26, 1846, from parts of Huntingdon and Bedford counties. The county is part of the Southwest Pennsylvania region of the state.
