Methodist University Hospital. Methodist University Hospital is a hospital located in Memphis, Tennessee which is a part of Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. History. This hospital, built in 1979, is now the flagship of Baptist Memorial Health Care since the closure of the Madison Campus in the Medical District, Memphis in 2000, which dated from 1912. Pikeville Medical Center treated its first patient on December 25, 1924. The original facility had 50 beds, but by May 1940, the hospital was expanded to a 90-bed facility. Pikeville's rapid growth called for another expansion in 1952, which brought the bed capacity to 135. [2]
