Bill Holowaty is a retired baseball coach who coached the Eastern Connecticut State University baseball team for 45 years (1967–2012). [1] He is the most successful coach in the history of New England intercollegiate athletics and led Eastern Connecticut State's baseball team to four Division III College World Series victories.
The stadium was opened in 1998. It has a seating capacity of 1,500. Its primary tenant is the Eastern Connecticut State University college baseball team. [1] The stadium has also hosted several NCAA Division III regional baseball tournaments and was home to the collegiate summer Thread City Tides from 1998 to 2003. [2]
The league was renamed as the Eastern League in 1938 when the Scranton Miners of Scranton, Pennsylvania, moved to Hartford, Connecticut, and became the Hartford Bees. The league has had teams in a total of 52 different cities, located in 12 different states and two Canadian provinces. The league consisted of six to eight teams from 1923 until 1993.

The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) is a 13-team collegiate summer baseball wooden bat league founded in 1993 and sanctioned by the NCAA and Major League Baseball. Each NECBL team plays an eight-week, 44-game schedule during June and July, with a playoff in early August.

The New England Collegiate Baseball League was founded in 1993 as a five-team Connecticut league, where the Tides were the easternmost team, hence the name. Eastern was the only charter franchise to not take the name of its host community, Willimantic, which itself is a census-designated place in the town of Windham .
