Monsters of Rock is a heavy metal/hard rock compilation album released by Razor & Tie, which includes 16 hits of the 1980s "hair metal" scene (except for .38 Special's 1981 hit "Hold on Loosely"), many of which charted in either the Top 10 or Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100.
By 2003 however, hard rock was growing again and Live Nation decided to resurrect the Monsters of Rock of old, under a new name - Download Festival. The festival was a runaway success, and lasted followed 1997's plans to extend Monsters of Rock to two days rather than the single day Monsters of Rock always had. The festival continues to this day.
