Developed in the late 1980s by the Ford Motor Company, the Ford Zeta engine was a straight four, double overhead cam internal combustion engine intended to replace the Pinto and CVH models. The Zeta shared some parts with other Ford engines developed at the time, including the smaller Sigma I4 and larger Duratec V6 .
This engine was also produced in Cologne, Germany. It was put in Pintos, Mustangs, Fairmonts and Rangers. It was then modified by Mazda to become the 2.5L in the late 1990s Ranger/U.S. sold Mazda pickups.
