Duran Duran (/ dj ʊ ˌ r æ n dj ʊ ˈ r æ n /) are an English pop rock band formed in Birmingham in 1978 by singer Stephen Duffy, keyboardist Nick Rhodes and guitarist/bassist John Taylor. After several early changes, the band's line-up settled in May 1980 as Rhodes, Taylor, singer Simon Le Bon , guitarist Andy Taylor and drummer Roger Taylor .

The band ultimately chose to self-title the album after describing themselves as having to go "back to the basics", [14] though the record was referred to as "the Wedding Album" immediately upon release. The band also played to an audience of 70,000 people in Hyde Park to coincide with the opening of the 2012 London Olympic Games. Taylor then began working with his bandmates on the 14th Duran Duran album with producers Mark Ronson, Ben Hudson and Nile Rodgers; Paper Gods was released in 2015.
