Foot & Ankle Specialist is a bimonthly peer-reviewed medical journal that covers the field of orthopedics. The editors-in-chief are Gregory C. Berlet and Lowell Weil, Jr. (Weil Foot & Ankle Institute). It was established in 2008 and is currently published by SAGE Publications.
It was founded in 1969 and currently has a membership of around 2,400 foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeons. The society provides education, research, grants, and other services to the general public and orthopaedic doctors, allied health practitioners, and researchers specializing in orthopaedic foot and ankle medicine and surgery.

Podiatric surgeons are specialist podiatrists who have completed extensive, post-graduate medical and surgical training and perform reconstructive surgery of the foot and ankle. The qualifications of podiatric surgeons are recognised by Australian state and federal governments. It is an approved specialty by the AHPRA.
Podiatry (/ p oʊ ˈ d aɪ. ə t r i / poh-DY-ə-tree), or podiatric medicine and surgery (/ ˌ p oʊ d i ˈ æ t r ɪ k, p oʊ ˈ d aɪ. ə t r ɪ k / POH-dee-AT-rik, poh-DY-ə-trik), is a branch of medicine devoted to the study, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower limb.
The little hospital had a nine-member medical staff and 17 beds on the second and third floors, including eight private rooms. Surgeons operated on the first floor, then carried their patients up the stairs to their rooms above. In its first year, 243 patients were admitted. By 1914, St. Joe's had moved to a new facility on Ingalls Street.
