As of 14 November 2023, the UGC lists 124 institutes which were granted the deemed to be university status. [2] In 2017, a distinct category of deemed universities was established called Institutes of Eminence Deemed to be Universities, which are regulated differently from other deemed universities to develop into world-class institutions.
The Big Four refers to the top four universities in the Philippines: the University of the Philippines System (UP), Ateneo de Manila University (Ateneo), De La Salle University (DLSU), and the University of Santo Tomas (UST), all located in Metro Manila — although UP is scattered across eight constituent universities, located in different parts of the Philippines.
The university has been named after Narayana Guru and has its headquarters at Kureepuzha in Kollam. [2] [3] P M Mubarak Pasha was appointed as the first vice-chancellor and S V Sudheer as the first pro-vice-chancellor of the university. [4] The university was approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 2021. [5]
The UGC is the apex body of all the affiliated public, private and international universities of Bangladesh. It provides funds for "Government Funded Universities" of Bangladesh. Its mission is to ensure the quality of higher education throughout the country. Private universities must obtain permission from UGC before they operate.
