Northbound NC 105, in Linville Southbound NC 105 with overlapping US 221, US 321, and US 421 Truck routes, in Boone North end of NC 105, in Boone. NC 105 follows the general route of the old East Tennessee and Western North Carolina Railroad (ET&WNC), also known as the "Tweetsie," connecting Linville to Boone before a major flood washed away many sections of the railbed in 1940.
Boone is a town in and the county seat of Watauga County, North Carolina, United States. Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina, Boone is the home of Appalachian State University and the headquarters of the disaster and medical relief organization Samaritan's Purse. The population was 19,092 at the 2020 census. [5]
In 1921, NC 60 was established, following Daniel Boone's Trail from Zionville to Boone; the highway then continued east to Castle Hayne (near Wilmington). From 1930-'32, the route overlapped with US 321, it was soon replaced in 1932 by US 421. In late 1934, NC 60 was decommissioned.
