In 1969, Tolland High School (THS) opened as the first all electric high school in Connecticut.In its first year, there were only three grades: 9th, 10th, and 11th.. In 2002, the Tolland Board of Education recommended the construction of a new building for THS.
The historic district contains 55 contributing buildings and one other site, [2] and is located primarily along Merrow Road from just south of Cider Mill Road in the south, past the Tolland Green, then widening in the north to encompass both Tolland Stage Road and the street known as Tolland Green to roughly Dunn Hill Road.
